Ceres FC, Kaya FC Put a Tough Stands in the AFC Cup 2016 Opener

The top two Filipino clubs in the country, Ceres FC and Kaya FC put up a tough stands against their respective opponent in one of Asia's most prominent football competition the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup campaigns on Tuesday night. Ceres FC and Kaya FC did their best to represent the country but failed to secure a huge win.

The Bacolod-based Ceres FC who played in front of its hometown crowd at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City showed grit during the game but ended up with a draw at 2-2 all against Selangor FA of Malaysia.

Ceres FC made an impressive showing at the start of the game as they draw first blood following a Stephan Schrock goal at the 17th minute but Selangor gained momentum and the lead when they scored at 34th and 60th minutes.

The UFL Champion Ceres FC pushed hard for an equalizer which they get during the last few minutes of the game with the efford of Adrian Galladro who fired a booming strike at the 87th minutes and the Filipinos were able to snatch a point during their first game of the prestigious AFC Cup Championship.

Kaya FC on the other hand failed to score a point as they were defeated by the home side Kitchee of Hong Kong, although they were able t push their opponents to the limit they gave up a penalty shot at the 69th minute that was enough to give a win to the home side.

Ceres and Kaya will return to action on March 8 against their respective opponents Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd. of Bangladesh in Group E and New Radiant SC of Maldives in Group F.

The AFC Cup is a competition for domestic clubs in Asia. Ceres and Kaya earned the right to represent the Philippines in the competition after being crowned as the champions of UFL and UFL Cup last year, respectively.
